Explore the factors that make weather in West Texas so varied and unusual. Learn how severe weather is defined, what is necessary for severe weather to occur, and the role storm spotters play in the weather warning process. Real-world examples of severe weather events will be presented, allowing participants to practice their chasing skills. Discussion will be non-technical, yet informative and fun!

Derrick "D.G." Ginter

Derrick “D.G.” Ginter has been an NWS Skywarn volunteer with the Lubbock Storm Spotting Team since 1990, and he has been a member of Ron Roberts’ “Storm Team” on KAMC-TV since 1998. Meteorology and wind engineering were among his areas of study in earning a master’s degree from Texas Tech University, and severe weather has been a passion/interest/hobby since his youth.
