Barbara Fahrlander noticed a poorly marked gravesite on a visit to a cemetery in Lawn, Texas, and became intrigued with the life of Vera Dawn Walker. Walker was born in Texas and went to Los Angeles to find fame in the movies in the early 1920s. While acting in a Tom Mix movie, she took her first airplane ride and fell in love with flying. She became an accomplished pilot, was a friend of Amelia Earhart and helped found the women's pilot organization The 99s. A special exhibit at the Abilene Regional Airport will be unveiled during the class.
