Psychiatrist Carl Jung connected different needs within our human psyche to stories that resonate with us. These stories employ characters whose motives we intuit because we recognize those same needs within us. Our needs for stability and order, are balanced by our needs for risk-taking and mastering the new. Likewise, we find ourselves suspended between our needs for individual development and social acceptance. These four natural needs are divided into 12 archetypes. In class we’ll explore the archetypes and human needs they reflect, showing how certain themes resonate for us as individuals.
