Seven months after the Woodstock music festival, a group of young music fans planned a large rock festival for Lubbock. Many of the area officials and citizens were not keen on an invasion of “long-haired, marijuanasmoking, hippies.” The festival was held but stymied by a legal injunction, several venue changes, rain, high wind, almost freezing temperatures, and more than 600 arrests. Local historian Cindy Martin will illustrate this fun story with photographs and video.
