David D. Schafer will provide course participants with insights into Lyndon B. Johnson’s historic presidency during the 1960s when he was governing the nation from the LBJ Ranch near Stonewall, Texas. Through stories, descriptions and a variety of media—such as photographs and audio-visual recordings— Schafer will share this compelling history with attendees. Schafer, a native of Kansas, worked for the National Park Service for 32 years at historic sites in Kansas, Hawaii, Missouri, Puerto Rico, Oklahoma and Texas. In 2019, he retired as a supervisory park ranger at Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park. In addition to researching and writing, he leads trolley tours of historic Fredericksburg.
