This second session offers an expanded look at Ukraine’s ongoing challenges and the resilience of its people. We’ll explore recent events, cultural impacts and the complex dynamics shaping Ukraine’s path forward. This discussion-based session will provide additional insights into Ukraine’s story, allowing participants to deepen their understanding and engage with questions and perspectives on the broader significance of these developments. Dr. Sergiy Nesterenko is an accomplished orthopedic spine surgeon based in Lubbock, Texas, where he specializes in the management of degenerative spine conditions. Born and raised in Ukraine, Dr. Nesterenko graduated from Dnipro State Medical University in 2002. In 2023, Dr. Nesterenko was honored by NAEMT with the prestigious Scott Frame Service Award, recognizing his exceptional dedication to improving trauma care access. This award highlights his volunteer efforts in translating critical medical training materials, including the Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) curriculum developed by the Defense Health Agency's Joint Trauma System, for Ukraine's defenders. Presented at the 2023 World Trauma Symposium in New Orleans, this award reflects his commitment to high-quality trauma care and his contributions to the legacies of Dr. Scott Frame and Dr. Norman McSwain. A proud American who cherishes the values of freedom and democracy, Dr. Nesterenko sees strong parallels between the resilient, freedom-loving people of Texas and the Ukrainians defending their homeland. His journey exemplifies the shared values that bridge his Ukrainian heritage and American life, dedicated to advancing healthcare and embodying the spirit of service across borders.
