Cultural Values underlie the ways we solve the problems of life, and we can measure how much they vary, from one country to another. This class explores the six major value systems that operate in all cultures. We will then take a look at how those differences shape our behaviors. An example is the contrast between Americans who are taught “we can be anyone we want to be,” versus Hispanic & Asian cultures where who you are is defined by the groups you are born into. Lastly, cultural values can alert us to points of potential conflict when interacting with persons from other cultures.
