Many grassland-obligate species are listed as Species of Greatest Conservation Need due to habitat loss and rangeland fragmentation. Supported by Texas Tech University, the TTU System Ranches, and private ranch partners, the Department of Natural Resources Management is expanding brush management research. Drs. Caitlyn Cooper-Norris and Warren Conway, with graduate students, will discuss the importance of brush management, key Rolling Plains bird species, and how Texas Tech is advancing research to support working ranches and preserve Texas ranching heritage.
