From 1885 to 1887, over 300 state convicts labored at the Granite Mountain Quarry, cutting stone for the new Texas State Capitol building. There are a number of myths associated with convict labor including living conditions, racial mix and punishment. The lecture will include information on selection of the contractor, funding for construction and discussion of the myths which are now embedded in local history.
