Franklin teaches the history of indigenous peoples, the American West and the United States Army before 1900. She serves on the editorial board of Montana: The Magazine of Western History and has published award-winning articles. Her book, “The Army Stands Between: Soldiers and Indians in the American West” will be published by the University of Nebraska Press.
