Historical and genealogical treasure, along with various oddities, can be found in the collection of files of the Texas General Land Office. A sneak peek of one interesting and uncommon document we will cover is that of the last will of Joseph Heneage Finch, the 7th Earl of Aylesford, who descended from a long line of English nobility. Due to scandal and controversy, the Earl fled his country in self-imposed exile. In 1883, the Earl of Aylesford arrived in Big Spring, Texas, to become a cowboy and odd celebrity.
