Did you know an average person spends just 5–17 seconds looking at a work of art? Join curator Tracee Robertson to slow down and learn the art of seeing. She will guide you through a six-step process of looking carefully at a work of art on display at the Museum of Texas Tech University (MoTTU). The process begins with simply deciding to look. Because seeing takes time, it provides stress relief. The activity is adapted from the Toledo Museum of Art’s visual literacy program, “The Art of Seeing Art.”™ Together we’ll explore a work as a communication between artist and viewer about our shared human experience. Build your visual literacy and confidence in finding personal value in art. Instructor Tracee W. Robertson is the Helen DeVitt Jones Curator of Art at MoTTU.
