Given the frequent mention of tariffs in the news today, the Fredericksburg Olli has added a class to the Spring schedule on Wednesday, May 7th. Taught by Dr. Linda Gerber, the class will explore the history of tariffs in the global economy. She will explore what tariffs are, what motivated their use, why they saw widespread use for many decades, and what changed prevailing economic thought and practice about tariff use. In addition, the class will describe some of the most common economic outcomes of tariff use in the past along with different rationales behind employing tariffs. This class will NOT include any political discussion about the current Administration's tariffs or proposed tariffs. The class will only review tariffs from a historical perspective.
Fee: $15.00
