"Love Affair," the 1939 film directed by Leo McCarey, has a distinct place in the history of American movies. It's a film that has been remade several times, but this version is one of the outstanding achievements in the comedy romance genre. It features Michel Marnet (Charles Boyer) as an engaged "ladies man" who falls in love with singer Terry McKay (Irene Dunne) who is also spoken for. Even though the odds are against them, they eventually find a way to be together. Nominated for six Academy Awards, this film helped set the template for similar films to follow.
