This class provides a foundational overview of vehicle automation through the introduction of key concepts, terminology, levels of automation and Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). By the end of the class, participants will learn about common vehicle automation services such as adaptive cruise control, lane keeping, automated parking, collision avoidance and how they contribute to safer, smarter vehicles. Emphasis will be placed on how human drivers interact with these systems, their benefits and limitations.
Tanushree Roy and Nade Liang are assistant professors in the Departments of Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Engineering, respectively, at Texas Tech. Their common research focus is on human-machine interfaces and automotive safety.
