This tour highlights artist Millard Sheets and his often-overlooked work in Lubbock. Born in Pomona, Calif., in 1907, he was a leading watercolorist whose career also spanned architecture, murals, mosaics and tapestries. From 1959 to the 1980s, Sheets produced mosaics and murals in Lubbock, including works for the Lubbock National Bank Building (now Lubbock County offices), the Civic Center, and Methodist Hospital. He created more than 100 major works nationwide, including projects for the National Shrine in Washington, D.C., the University of Notre Dame and Los Angeles City Hall. Jordan Nabers directs Corporate & Foundation Relations at TTUHSC, with experience in arts preservation, State Dept. and Lubbock Heritage Society. She holds an MA in Arts Management from George Mason University and a BA in Anthropology from University of Texas at Arlington.
