This class explores how the Lubbock Symphony planned its 2025–26 season to celebrate the nation’s 250th birthday. Participants will examine the history of Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture and how it became a staple of Fourth of July concert programs across the United States. The class also highlights influential American composers of the 20th and 21st centuries, examining their contributions to the development of a distinctly American symphonic tradition. Born in Seoul, Korea, David Cho earned degrees from Oberlin and Peabody and a master’s in conducting from Rice. He served as associate conductor with the San Antonio and Utah Symphonies and the Vienna Philharmonic. He is the seventh music director of the Lubbock Symphony and is deeply engaged in community outreach.
Fee: $45.00
